The Philadelphia Eagles lost safety Reed Blankenship to the Houston Texans in free agency, with Blankenship signing a 3-year, $24.75 million contract.
Reed Blankenship emerged as a key piece of Philadelphia's defense, logging nearly 1,000 more snaps than any other undrafted safety over the past four seasons.
He was named to Pro Football Focus NFL reporter Daire Carragher's NFL All-UDFA Team for 2026.
The Eagles chose not to pay Blankenship the relatively paltry $24.75 million contract, allowing him to sign with the Texans.
Blankenship's PFF grade declined in each season of his career, culminating in a 42.8 mark in 2025.
Blankenship unloaded on his old team, saying "that honestly felt like the first time in my whole career, that somebody really wanted me as a player and as a person" after signing with the Texans.
Eagles fans disputed Blankenship's claim, pointing out that he was voted Captain of a Super Bowl team and received an extension from the team.
The Eagles are currently 12th in the American Football Conference with a 6-11 record, on a L6 streak, and face the Washington Commanders on September 13, 2026.
And the team will have to regroup without Blankenship, who played a significant role in their defense.
So the Eagles' defense will look different next season, with Blankenship playing for the Texans.
But the Eagles have time to adjust before their next game, and they will look to bounce back from their current losing streak.
