Philadelphia Eagles Place Veteran Edge Rusher on Reserve/Retired List

The Philadelphia Eagles made a flurry of roster moves on Tuesday, including placing veteran edge rusher Joe Tryon-Shoyinka on the reserve/retired list. Tryon-Shoyinka, 27, walked away from the NFL after signing with the Eagles in late March. He did not participate in the team's organized team activities (OTAs) or mandatory minicamp. The Eagles have since signed defensive end A.J. Epenesa, a former first-round pick out of Washington in 2021. Epenesa began his career with the Buccaneers and also played for the Browns and Bears. Last season, Tryon-Shoyinka suffered a concussion with the Bears in Week 17 against the 49ers and missed Week 18 and both of the Bears' playoff games. In his career, Tryon-Shoyinka played in 82 games with 45 starts and had 15 sacks. The Eagles also signed wide receiver Erik Ezukanma and defensive back Shaun Wade from the United Football League (UFL). Ezukanma, 26, was a fourth-round pick of the Dolphins out of Texas Tech in 2022. He most recently played for the DC Defenders of the UFL but played in five games with the Dolphins from 2022-2023. Eagles passing game coordinator Josh Grizzard was a quality control coach in Miami during Ezukanma's time with the Dolphins. Wade, 27, was a fifth-round pick of the Ravens in 2021 out of Ohio State. He played in 20 games (six starts) with the Patriots from 2021-2023 but was most recently in the UFL. The Eagles also waived defensive back Brandon Johnson, a UDFA out of Oregon last season, to create another roster spot.
